Introduction

This guide will walk through the correct installation procedure for the Grimm OffRoad 2015+ F-150 Transmission Skid Plate.

Many products require the vehicle be properly raised and supported off the ground. The installer is responsible for confirming that this may be done in a safe manner and the correct equipment is available to perform the installation. Grimm OffRoad installation instructions assume the installer is able to properly and safely lift the vehicle.

Vehicles that have been modified will not perform the same as a stock vehicle. It is incumbent upon the owner of the vehicle to be aware of the differences the modifications will make to the driving characteristics of the vehicle. These may include (but are not limited to): changes in handling, braking, rollover angle, incompatibilities with the factory anti-lock braking systems, stability control systems, or traction control systems.

Notes

  • Installation is shown on a gas v8 truck. Diesel and EcoBoost trucks may look different with different coolers, but installation is the same.
  • This skidplate is part of a complete skidplate group. This skidplate can be installed individually, but compatibility with other aftermarket skidplates is not guaranteed.

STEP 1

Verify that all parts shown in the pictures are present.
STEP 2

Remove Any Existing Skid Plates

If there are any factory skid plates on the vehicle that would prevent installation of this skid plate, remove them.
Remove the factory felt lower engine/transmission cover. Use a 15mm wrench/socket to remove the 4 forward bolts and a 13mm wrench/socket to remove the brackets on the rear of the frame.
STEP 3

Install Clip Nuts

Install M8 clip nuts on the Grimm OffRoad Nut Plates as shown.
Make sure either the factory clip nuts or provided M10 clip nuts are present in the crossmember directly behind the front differential.
If installing this skid plate as part of the Grimm OffRoad Skid Plate System, make sure the engine skids are already installed and leave the rearward hardware loose.
STEP 4

Install Clip Nut Tabs and Hardware

Install the two clip nut tabs into the crossmember just in front of the transfer case and align with the round holes.
STEP 5

Install Skid Plate

Slide the skid plate over the forward M10 bolts and then install the rear M8 bolts and washers.
Verify the skidplate is correctly positioned, and then tighten hardware.

Torque M10 hardware to 35 lb-ft [48Nm] with a 17mm socket.

Torque M8 hardware to 22 lb-ft [30Nm] with a 13mm socket.

Conclusion

Installation is complete!

With any modified vehicle, or any vehicle used offroad, it is a good idea to check bolt torques periodically and visually inspect components regularly.
